Gerardo Ocañas, P.E., CFM, D.WRE, joins planning, engineering and program management firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) as a senior project manager.
In this role, Ocañas will lead LAN’s efforts to expand its existing storm water infrastructure engineering practice in the North Texas region and adjacent areas. His responsibilities will include developing and maintaining client relationships, cultivating new business opportunities, positioning for projects, developing teaming arrangements, leading proposal preparation and participating in interviews. In addition, Ocañas will manage and coordinate project teams on various storm water projects for municipal, state and federal clients.
Ocañas has more than 30 years experience, ranging from master planning to design of complex storm water projects. His expertise includes dynamic hydraulic simulation using technologies such as InfoWorks to model river systems, storm drainage systems, wastewater collection systems and combined sewer systems.
His portfolio includes many noteworthy projects such as the drainage master plan for the main cantonment area of Fort Bliss, Texas; the Fort Sam Houston storm water system assessment in San Antonio; the flood investigation at the land port of entry in Del Rio, Texas; and the city of Grand Prairie wastewater master plan in 2007. He also has designed numerous industrial, domestic and water reuse treatment plants throughout Mexico.

Ocañas received a doctorate in environmental systems engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Monterrey Tech, Mexico. A licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas, Ocañas is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers and the Texas Floodplain Manager’s Assn.
