Atkins’ Water & Environment Group Names New President

Gary Erickson, P.E., will oversee business for the company's Water & Environment group in North America

Gary Erickson, P.E., has joined Atkins as president of its Water & Environment group business. He has more than 30 years of experience within the engineering industry, including many years working for federal government agencies.

Prior to joining Atkins, he has served in management capacities at two other consulting firms as director of business development and strategy and president of federal services. Additionally, Erickson has filled civil engineering leadership roles with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served as director of the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence.

“Gary’s extensive career leading the execution of major infrastructure projects, and his strong skills in strategy development and implementation, make him an ideal complement to our leadership team,” said Atkins CEO Dean Fox. “His broad mix of experience makes us confident in his ability to advance our water and environmental businesses and expand our service offerings into new markets.”

Erickson’s resume includes surface water and groundwater management, water resource planning, flood management and risk assessment. He has worked on water resources programs in developing countries and helped improve water resource delivery for agricultural and municipal uses in the West Bank, Palestine. 

He has also worked on the Hurricane Katrina taskforce recovery team evaluating risk reviews for levee repairs, pump stations and municipal water system recovery/start-up, and directed the planning, coordination and execution of the $3 billion annual Missouri River flood control plan and Missouri River master manual.

During his career, Erickson has received numerous awards for his achievements, including the Presidential Meritorious Executive Award and Civilian Meritorious Service Award and the National Society of Professional Engineers Federal Engineer of the Year Award. He is also a fellow in the Society of American Military Engineers and has served as chair of the organization’s national mentoring initiative.                                     

Erickson has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University, received his master’s degree in public administration from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and completed his Bachelor of Science degree at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He is also a registered professorial engineer.
