Florida Treatment Plant Makes Legislative Agenda

The Florida Everglades are seeking millions of dollars from state and federal legislators for a water treatment plant
Dec. 6, 2007

As is common for counties nationwide, the Florida Everglades have yet again put a new water treatment plant at the top of their legislative agenda.

The county, which is building a $58 million Lake Region water treatment plant, is requesting $3.5 million from the state to fund the project. This request is despite a recent $7.5 million check from the federal water resources bill and the $1.5 million they have received from the state. Legislators hope to improve water quality for Pahokee, Belle Glade and South Bay.

Similarly, Palm Beach County is also looking for water and road-building money—for a total of $12.6 million.
