Agencies Release Constructed Wetlands Guide

March 23, 2001

A new document developed by the federal Interagency Workgroup on Constructed Wetlands describes "guiding principles" for designing, constructing, siting, operating, maintaining, and monitoring constructed treatment wetlands.

Information on agency policies, permits, regulations, and resources relating to constructed wetlands also is included.

Agencies contributing to the guide's development include the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Natural Resources Conservation Services, National Marine Fisheries Service, and U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

The document, Guiding Principles for Constructed Treatment Wetlands: Providing Water Quality and Wildlife Habitat (EPA 843-B-00-003), is available on the EPA Office of Water Web site at www.epa.gov/owow/wetlands/constructed/guide.html.

Print copies may be obtained by contacting the agency's Wetlands Helpline at (800) 832-7828 or by email at [email protected].
