Insituform Technologies, Inc. Wins $11.9 Million Contract to Rehabilitate Sewer Line for Massachusetts Water Resources Authority

Insituform Technologies, Inc has announced that the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) has awarded Insituform an $11.9 million contract to repair a nearly three-mile-long pipe segment of an aging sewer main using the company’s Insituform(R) process of pipe rehabilitation. This technology creates a new pipe in place that seals the sewer and restores its structural integrity without digging up the existing pipe. Insituform rehabilitated other segments of the line in 1994.

Owned by the MWRA, the Framingham Extension Sewer was constructed in the mid-1950s to serve the towns of Framingham, Natick and Ashland. The sewer has pipes ranging from 27 to 48 inches in diameter, and as much as 30 million gallons of wastewater pass through the line every day, all of which is eventually conveyed to Nut Island in Quincy. The project is expected to be completed in 2002.
