Pure Technologies Announces Contract Extension in San Diego

Contract to supply monitoring, technical support worth approximately $4 million

Pure Technologies Ltd. announced that it has been awarded a contract extension worth approximately $4 million to supply monitoring and technical support to the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA).

This contract builds on the work that initially commenced in 2005 when Pure was retained by the SDCWA to install a temporary acoustic monitoring system in sections of the authority's pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP).

The success of the initial monitoring program led to an expanded program in 2006 with the installation of the newly developed acoustic fiber optic (AFO) monitoring system. Today, there are seven AFO systems in place monitoring more than 50 miles of PCCP.

The SDCWA has more than 250 miles of critical large diameter pipelines that provide up to 95% of the water to the San Diego County's population of 3 million people. In order to provide a safe and reliable supply of water to San Diego County, the authority implemented the Aqueduct Protection Program (APP) in 1992.

Part of the program consists of developing and researching new non-invasive and non-destructive inspection procedures to determine the condition of existing PCCP. AFO is a vital part of this proactive condition assessment program.
