Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Acquires Virginia-based Contractor

The company expands its water and wastewater services with Fru-Con acquisition

Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Inc. announced the acquisition of Fru-Con Construction LLC, a water and wastewater infrastructure contractor based in Virginia. Balfour acquired Fru-Con from Germany-based Bilfinger-Berger.

Fru-Con will retain its name and operate as a region of Balfour. The approximately 150 regional employees will be led by Michael R. Fischer, vice president of Fru-Con. Fischer will continue to be based in Woodbridge, Va.

Founded in 1872, Fru-Con is among the oldest contractors in the United States and has annual revenues of approximately $80 million. The company constructs water and wastewater treatment plants and currently has major projects underway throughout the Maryland and Virginia area. They recently completed the award-winning $136 million Water Pollution Control Plant Upgrade and Expansion Project for Arlington County, Va., in 2010.
