East Valley Water District General Manager Announces Retirement
Robert E. Martin announced his pending retirement as general manager of East Valley Water District (EVWD) in a letter accepted by the EVWD board of directors yesterday. President of the Board George “Skip” Wilson said that an extensive search for an exceptional replacement will begin immediately. Martin is expected to stay on with the district through Nov. 30, when his current contract is set to expire.
Martin has served as general manager for EVWD since 1990. Before his appointment as general manager, Martin was EVWD’s district engineer for six years. Martin worked as a private civil engineer before his employment at EVWD.
“Serving my community in this capacity has been an honor,” Martin said. “We have seen the district grow and have taken great strides in improving the district’s infrastructure and keeping up with increased water quality regulations to deliver some of the finest local water in Southern California.”
Martin said he expects the leadership transition to be smooth and transparent for all EVWD staff and customers, and that he will be assisting the board in the hiring and succession process to maintain consistency.
“Bob’s management of EVWD has been guided by his love for this community and the water industry,” Wilson said. “EVWD has been fortunate to have a steady leader at the helm for so many years.”
EVWD provides water and sewer collection services to about 70,000 people in the cities of San Bernardino and Highland, Calif.
