Select Environmental Services Awarded Contract for Biosolids Removal

Contract also includes applying new lining to digester at Florida wastewater plant

Select Environmental Services Inc., a maintenance contractor located in Thonotosassa, Fla., recently was awarded a $395,000 contract by Mechanical Industrial Services for the removal of approximately 2,800 cu yd of biosolids, as well applying epoxy lining to 14,000 sq ft of a digester at the Howard F. Curren wastewater facility in Tampa, Fla. The biosolids Select Environmental Services will remove could fill nine Olympic-sized swimming pools, the company said.

The Howard F. Curren facility is one of the largest wastewater treatment plants in the world. It was designed to process 96 million gal of waste a day. It receives all of the wastewater discharged through the city of Tampa’s sewer system. The facility was named as a tribute to Howard F. Curren, who was the contract administrator for the Tampa wastewater department from 1972 to 1988. During his career, he was instrumental in securing more than $300 million in financing for the department.
