Delegation will met with Chinese representatives and tour facilities

CH2M HILL Vice President Udai P. Singh, in his role as 2009-2010 president of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), will lead a U.S. delegation of environmental and water resources professionals to China from Nov. 2 to 13.

The primary objective of the visit is to dialogue with Chinese counterparts on topics of mutual interest regarding technical expertise and public policy associated with the planning, design, construction and operation of environmentally sound and sustainable infrastructure impacting air, land and water resources. The 20 U.S. delegates from federal, state and city governments, universities, utilities and consulting firms will discuss best practices, emerging technologies and approaches and research needs.

The delegation will meet in Beijing, Guilin and Shanghai with organizations such as the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, the College of Water Science at Beijing National University and the Shanghai Water Resources Foundation. Tours will occur at the Beijing Gaobeidian Sewage Treatment Factory and the Two Rivers and Four Lakes Project.

“I am looking forward to representing my profession and participating in bilateral exchanges with our professional counterparts in China,” said Singh, who is based in CH2M HILL’s Oakland, Calif., office.

People to People, an organization founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to foster one-on-one dialogue with overseas counterparts, is sponsoring the U.S. delegation of members from professional societies, including ASCE, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Water Environment Federation, American Water Works Association and the American Water Resources Association.
