Partnership includes effort to expand scope of NSF Intl.’s electrical testing and certification services for recreational water equipment, biohazard cabinetry and mechanical plumbing

NSF Intl., a public health and safety organization that writes standards and certifies products for food, water and consumer goods, announced a new strategic partnership with MET Laboratories, the first Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory in the U.S., according to NSF Intl.

Partnering with MET Laboratories will expand the scope of NSF Intl.’s electrical testing and certification services. Key industry sectors will benefit from this partnership, including commercial and residential food equipment, recreational water equipment for pools and spas, mechanical plumbing devices and biosafety cabinets, the organization said.

MET will also benefit from NSF’s global presence, with 45 office locations in over 26 countries, including China, Japan, India, South Korea and Thailand.

“The partnership between NSF International and MET Laboratories expands NSF International’s electrical testing services to companies seeking certification from a National Recognized Testing Laboratory,” said Nancy Culotta, vice president of food safety and product certification for NSF Intl. “MET Laboratories has extensive experience in testing electrical systems and is uniquely qualified to partner with NSF Intl. Together, we will provide certification services that cover electrical, sanitation and health effects requirements for products such as food equipment, mechanical plumbing and pool and spa equipment.”

OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) accreditation enables both companies to provide electrical safety certification to all electrical standards, including foodservice-related UL standards.

“Electrical devices that interface with food and water are fundamental to everyday life, from cooking and preparing food, keeping our swimming pools clean and ensuring the efficacy of important plumbing devices,” said Rob Frier, MET Laboratories. “This is why we have strived for excellence in this field and why NSF International has chosen us to ensure the safety compliance of certified electrical devices.”
