Treatment Plant Operator Recognized for Outstanding Service

July 15, 2010
Greenleaf has served N.H. plant for nearly 25 years

Arnold Greenleaf of the Newport, N.H. Wastewater Treatment Facility was recently honored by Environmental Protection Agency with the 2009 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Award.

The EPA regional award program recognizes municipal personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable public service operating wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England. Greenleaf is the superintendent of the Newport Wastewater Treatment Plant and has been associated with the treatment plant for nearly 25 years. Greenleaf’s nomination was highly recommended by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES), as well as other highly regarded individuals in the profession.

EPA’s New England office formally acknowledged Greenleaf’s contributions during the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference at the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel earlier this year. However, because of necessary work that had to be taken care of at the plant and collection system due to poor weather conditions, Greenleaf was unable to attend at the time. This is yet another example of his dedication to the profession and to the town of Newport. Staff from the U.S. EPA Regional Office and the NHDES presented the award to Greenleaf in person at the Newport plant on July 13.

Greenleaf humbly deflected credit to his staff and management team. These professionals include Richard Boone, operator; Mike Denno, ttilities technician; Kurt Laurie, utilities technician; Mike McGill, utilities technician; Robert Naylor, water and sewer superintendent; Daniel O’Neill, town manager; Judy Schinck, secretary; John Shull, utilities technician; Amy Spreadbury, bookkeeper; and Larry Wiggins, public works director.
