American Water, an investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced that its subsidiary, Applied Water Management, has been awarded a $3.4 million contract from Home Properties Inc. to build a wastewater treatment plant in Islip, N.Y. The plant will treat 127,000 gal per day and serve approximately 1,000 people in two developments.
Applied Water Management already serves as the contracted operator for the community’s existing wastewater treatment plant, as well as four other plants in Long Island for Home Properties. The company designed the new plant, successfully bid on the construction, and will continue its operations contract.
“We have been operating wastewater treatment plants for Home Properties for several years and we are extremely pleased to be able to provide this solution to help them meet the needs of these communities,” said Donald Shields, vice president and director of technical services for Applied Water Management.
The Applied Water Management Group of American Water is headquartered in Hillsborough, N.J., and provides customized water and wastewater management solutions to real estate developers, industrial clients and small- to mid-sized communities. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water.
