Elastomeric Polyurethane Coating and Lining System Approved to ANSI/NSF Standard 61 for Use in Potable Water Tanks 3,000 Gal or Greater

Sherwin-Williams announced that its SherFlex elastomeric polyurethane coating and lining system has been approved to ANSI/NSF Standard 61 for use in potable water tanks of 3,000 gal or greater.

SherFlex is a high-build, impact and chemical resistant elastomeric polyurethane for coating concrete and steel potable water assets. If cured at 77°F, owners can begin the disinfection process 24 hours later. The company said it is a flexible alternative to thin film epoxies, which typically require a five to seven day return to service interval and, because they are more brittle, are prone to cracking when steel and concrete expand and contract.

“From weldable preconstruction primers and epoxies, to flexible polyurethanes and polyurea primers, Sherwin-Williams now has an NSF-approved product to meet every owner’s need and required return to service time,” said Brad Rossetto, vice president, marketing, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings.

SherFlex meets AWWA D-102-06 ICS #4 and ANSI/NSF Standard 61 for potable water.
