May 24, 2010
Named changed to more accurately describe work of foundation

The WateReuse Foundation has changed its name to the WateReuse Research Foundation, effective May 24, 2010. WateReuse Research Foundation Chair David Moore of the Southwest Florida Water Management District announced the name change during the opening session of the 14th Annual Water Reuse & Desalination Research at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay in Tampa, Fla.

The Foundation’s board of directors inserted the word “Research” into the name of the organization to more accurately describe the work of the Foundation. The WateReuse Research Foundation is the research arm of the WateReuse Assn. It is an educational, nonprofit public benefit corporation that serves as a centralized organization for the water and wastewater community to advance the science of water reuse and desalination. The foundation's research covers a broad spectrum of issues, including chemical contaminants, microbiological agents, treatment technologies, salinity management, public perception, economics and marketing.

The WateReuse Research Foundation's primary sources of funding are its subscribers and its funding partners, which include the Bureau of Reclamation, the California State Water Resources Control Board and the California Energy Commission. The Foundation's subscribers include water and wastewater agencies and other interested organizations. The WateReuse Research Foundation was established in 1993. It has sponsored 57 completed research studies and is managing 76 active projects.
