N.A. Water Systems Celebrates 100 Years in Water Treatment Industry

May 17, 2010
Organization began as small municipal consulting and engineering firm

N.A. Water Systems announced the celebration of its 100-year anniversary in providing water and wastewater treatment solutions and design-build services to industrial and municipal customers, according to Kirk Schwab, vice president and general manager.

Based in Moon Township, Pa., the company traces its history back to 1910, when the organization began as a small municipal consulting and engineering firm formed by two partners in downtown Pittsburgh. The company expanded its offerings to industrial markets in the 1950s when the close of World War II sparked a boom in industrial growth as well as a demand for treatment systems to handle the wastewater generated by industry.

The firm is now part of Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, the technology provider of Veolia Water.

“We are proud to be a part of Veolia,” Schwab said. “Developing technology and finding the best solutions for our customers have always been part of our culture, but being a part of a global organization affords us research and development support that far surpasses our previous capabilities.”

The company is known in the water treatment industry for its process expertise, and boasts of six patents issued in the past five years, with three patent applications still pending.

N.A. Water Systems also won a commendation from Global Water Intelligence for an oilfield produced water treatment project in San Ardo, Calif., and has received Innovation Awards from its parent organization for the past two years.

“Our process expertise combined with our design-build project experience enables us to provide complete turnkey solutions for our customers,” Schwab said. “Our strengths are in the know-how of our employees, the support of our global organization and the loyalty of our business partners, all of which have enabled us to reach this impressive milestone.”
