Communities Celebrate Drinking Water Week 2010

Water community focuses on what only tap water delivers

The American Water Works Assn. (AWWA) kicked off Drinking Water Week 2010, an annual celebration of water.

A safe, reliable water supply is critical to the success of any community. It creates jobs, supports business and investment, and provides for the health and welfare of citizens in ways ranging from disease prevention to fire suppression.

"Drinking Water Week is an opportunity for North Americans to think about what water means to each of us,” said AWWA President Craig Woolard. "A safe, reliable water supply is critical to the success of any community. It creates jobs, supports business and investment and provides for the health and welfare of citizens in ways ranging from disease prevention to fire suppression.”

Throughout the week, AWWA will highlight what "only tap water delivers," drawing special attention to drinking water quality, water safety and conservation and the importance of water infrastructure.

To commemorate the occasion, water utilities, environmental advocates and others will celebrate drinking water through school events, public presentations and community festivals. They will also provide their communities with important tips for protecting our water supplies and conserving resources.

For more than 35 years, the AWWA and its members have celebrated Drinking Water Week, an opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to join together to recognize the vital role water plays in our daily lives.
