Poole and Kent Co. of Florida to partake in South District WWTP construction

EMCOR Group, Inc. announced that its Poole and Kent Co. of Florida subsidiary has been awarded a contract by Miami-Dade County, Fla., for the construction work within the South District Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Miami.

Poole and Kent will be responsible for the construction of a 60,000-sq-ft septage receiving and solids handling building with two 50,000-gal fatty oils and greases tanks. The building will include a multilevel structure to house process equipment, a finished area for offices, employee facilities and an influent channel to receive and transfer raw sewage. Poole and Kent also will install a motor control center, electrical switchgear, HVAC units and ventilation fans at the facility.

In addition, Poole and Kent will construct a chemical storage area with secondary containment and storage tanks, as well as an odor control system with blowers, scrubbers, circulation pumps, duct work and associated valves and controls. Its scope of work will include installation of 2,000 ft of ductile iron pipe, hot tapping of an existing precast concrete pipe, installation of more than 1,000 ft of CPVC pipe and hot taps for flushing and potable water systems. The company will be responsible, too, for construction of two independent truck scales, along with guard shacks, instrumentation, lighting and traffic control devices and installation of new control valves and piping at 17 existing injection wells, pumps and piping at a flushing water pump station.

"We are pleased to again be working with Miami-Dade County on this project for the South District WWTP," said Steve Jordan, president and chief executive officer of Poole and Kent Co. "The scope of this work requires a breadth and depth of expertise that optimally leverages our extensive skills and experience; it also allows us to serve the community in a meaningful way, knowing that our work will endure for many years to come."
