Spain is assisting in increasing the distribution of drinking water in Cape Verde, Africa, by financing a loan of $4.7 million to expand its desalination unit.
The loan is granted through Spain’s Contingent Development Fund and is contributing to Cape Verde’s Strategic Policy Program. This program focuses on reducing poverty and supports sustainable economic growth.
The goals of the project are to:
• Increase drinking water in Praia, the capital of Cape Verde;
• Connect clients; and
• Reduce sea water extraction costs.
Due to the increase in population and growth in reduction of water table levels, desalination is the primary method of supplying drinking water to the citizens of Cape Verde.
