TRA CReWSers Win WEFTEC.09 Operations Challenge

Defending champions take home 2009 title

The 2008 defending champions, TRA CReWSers from the Water Environment Association (WEA) of Texas, again took top honors at the WEFTEC.09 Operations Challenge competition that was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

Coached by Raudel Juarez, the team of Jacob Burwell, Dale Burrow, Steve Price and David Brown competed against 40 teams from the U.S., Canada and Argentina during the fast-paced, full-day event.

The full competition results are as follows:

Division 1
:First Place - TRA CReWSers, WEA of Texas

Second Place - Terminal Velocity, Virginia WEA

Third Place - Commode Commandos, Rocky Mountain WEA

Division 2First Place - 
Windy City Wizards, Illinois WEA

Second Place - Team HRSD, Virginia WEA

Third Place - Seacoast Sewer Snakes, New England WEA

Now in its 22nd year, Operations Challenge has grown from an original 22-team event to its current 41-team, two-division format. Winners are determined by a weighted point system for five events: collection systems, laboratory, process control, maintenance and safety. The events are designed to test the diverse skills required for the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, their collection systems and laboratories--all vital to the protection of public health and the environment.
