Calgon Carbon Corp. was chosen by the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority to provide an ultraviolet disinfection system for a water treatment plan in Marlboro, Mass., the Pittsburgh Business Times reported.

The John Carroll Water Treatment Plant will be able to treat up to 450 million gal of drinking water per day once they receive 12 of Calgon's Sentinel Chevron 48 reactors, scheduled for delivery by June 2012.

Gail Gerono, Calgon spokeswoman, said she was not able to provide a dollar amount for the contract because the scope of the project is not final.

Calgon, which manufactures activated carbon products and other water and air treatment systems, is based in Robinson Township, Pa., west of Pittsburgh.
