WateReuse Symposium to Offer Pre-Conference Workshops

July 29, 2009
Membrane bioreactors and desalination workshops are limited to first 50 registrants

The 24th Annual WateReuse Symposium to be held Sept. 13 to 16 in Seattle, will offer two pre-conference workshops for attendees looking for more in-depth coverage of key topics.

The Desalination 101 Workshop is designed to quickly bring participants up to speed on the latest desalination issues and technologies. Leading desalination experts will cover the basics of membrane separation technology, selection of pretreatment and reverse osmosis systems appropriate for particular brackish and seawater sources and permitting/institutional challenges to implementing desalination projects in the U.S. The workshop will conclude with a forward-thinking perspective on desalination research, the search for lower-cost desalination and collaborative efforts with stakeholders.

The Membrane Bioreactors Workshop will provide an opportunity to learn about innovative installations, the latest design issues and technology updates. Experts participating in this workshop will include representatives from a municipality, industry, the research community and consultants. The workshop will conclude with an opportunity for participants to provide some input and perspective on where additional research and design parameters should be heading.

Each workshop will be presented as a three-hour course on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is limited to the first 50 people who register.

This year’s Symposium will also feature a number of other innovations, including a student art and writing contest, poster displays of regional water reuse projects, an expanded program featuring early morning sessions and a unique forum which will give participants the opportunity to offer input on the next edition of the U.S. EPA Water Reuse Guidelines.
