The International Section of the Water Quality Association (WQA) is gearing up to be more responsive to the needs of global aspects of the industry. One such step is WQA’s recent efforts to assist the home water treatment industry in India.
WQA proposed a task force in India to initiate the activity specifically focused on Indian concerns. WQA worked with potentially interested companies in India to establish it. Unlike other WQA Task Forces, this group would hold meetings primarily in India. The group is responsible for setting up one to two meetings per year to discuss industry-related local issues. Possible agendas will be developed in conjunction with WQA International Section Staff and the present task forces and committees at WQA.
The first meeting of this group took place on July 23, 2008, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Mumbai, India. Fifty people from more than 30 Indian companies took part in this day-long meeting.
The second meeting took place on Jan. 29, 2009 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. A key focus of the meeting was the presentation by three sub-task groups and ensuing discussions.
The next meeting will take place July 27 and 28 in Bangalore. The final preparations are underway.
India Task Force effort is well underway and WQA members throughout India and rest of the world are benefiting. Competitive companies are working together for the good of the industry. Educational programs and product testing standards are being developed. The Task Force is progressing so well that WQA’s Gold Seal Product Certification program has hired staff to help with its objectives.
With additional WQA staff located in Bangalore, and good participation from people and companies in India leading to better health and protection for consumers, the Task Force’s objectives and goals should progress quickly.
