House committee reports infrastructure projects have “created or sustained” 49,377 jobs

Reuters has reported that the number of jobs saved or created by infrastructure projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 more than doubled in June, according to a report recently released by a House of Representatives committee.

At the end of May, approximately 21,000 jobs had been “created or sustained” by infrastructure projects including, water, highway and public transportation projects, compared to 49,377 jobs at the end of June.

Washington state accounted for the most jobs of any state or territory at 3,481, with the majority in highway repairs.

Only a few states and territories have not reported any jobs created or saved by the infrastructure spending, such as Georgia and Guam.
