A House Science and Technology Committee panel meets July 9 to explore the nexus between energy development and water supplies.
The Energy and Environment Subcommittee will hear from experts exploring the roles of industry and the federal government in developing technologies to help avoid resource supply disruptions, E&E Daily reported.
Energy production methods use a large amount of water, such as for cooling water for power plants, but energy is also needed for water pumping, water treatment and other projects.
The interdependence between energy and water requires technologies and practices that allow effective management of both.
An energy bill that cleared the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in June calls for several studies on water use in energy projects and examination of energy consumed in water acquisition, treatment and delivery.
