ACE09 to Host Facility Tours

June 15, 2009

ACE09 will host three facility tours on Wednesday, June 17. A limited number of tickets may be available for purchase; each tour has a limit of 45 people.

In light of ongoing water supply concerns, Cuyamaca Community College’s Conservation Garden educates residents about conservation techniques, drought-tolerant plants and other take-home solutions. The 4.2-acre garden comprises a variety of microgardens, including a native plant garden, fire-wise exhibit and turf plot. The tour takes place from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

The San Diego Water Authority’s Emergency Storage Project presents another ACE09 tour opportunity. Attendees will visit the site’s major components, which are being constructed to protect the county from being cut off from its imported water supply in case of a disaster. Once complete, the project will provide more than 90,000 acre ft of water storage for use in an emergency. This tour is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and lunch will be provided.

ACE09 is also offering a behind-the-scenes tour of SeaWorld San Diego’s marine mammal water system. Registrants will learn how natural seawater is pumped to the facility from Mission Bay; in the process, 150 sand filters treat 13 million gal of water to supply specially designed systems varying in size from 100 gal to 6.7 million gal.
