Siemens to Provide Equipment for Treatment Plant in Thailand

New wastewater treatment plant will treat approximately 5,000 cu meters per day

Siemens has been awarded a $10 million contract from Advance Agro Ethanol (aAE), a subsidiary of Advance Agro Public Co., Ltd., to provide process and electrical equipment for a wastewater treatment plant. The new plant will be located in Tha Toom, Prachinburi Province, Thailand.

The Siemens equipment, scheduled to be installed in the fourth quarter of 2009, will treat the wastewater from ethanol production to meet effluent standards and to obtain biogas that will be used as an alternative energy source. Siemens will design the plant, supply all process and mechanical equipment as well as the electrical, control and instrumentation system, and will install, test and commission the plant.

Sized to treat an average of 5,000 cu meters per day of wastewater, up to a maximum of 6,000 cu meters per day, the system includes: pretreatment, using filter press technology to remove the suspended solids; pre-acidification tank; anaerobic reactor; aeration system; secondary clarifier; dewatering system; chemical dosing units; and biogas flare stack.

A SCADA control and monitoring system will be provided using a Siemens’ PLC. Advance Agro Ethanol selected the Siemens wastewater treatment system for its overall efficient design and superior biogas production. The amount of biogas that will be generated from the wastewater treatment plant will save aAE more than $5.5 million per year, or a return on investment of approximately three years.
