Aquatech has received two nominations for this year’s Global Water Awards, which will be presented at by Global Water Intelligence (GWI) annual conference in Zurich on April 27, 2009. The nominations are for the Water Reuse Project of the Year and Industrial Project of the Year.
Aquatech’s installation of advanced evaporation technology to recycle produced water for the Mukhaizna oil field in Oman received the Water Reuse Project of the Year nomination. The Mukhaizna project is the world’s largest installation for produced water reuse application utilizing evaporation technology and is also the first major application of MVC technology in the water reuse sector in the Middle East.
For the Industrial Project of the Year category, Aquatech’s multiproject contract with ENEL, one of Europe’s largest power utilities, for zero liquid discharge solutions at five major power stations in Italy received the nomination. The ZLD plants are treating flue gas desulphurization (FGD) wastewater, one of the most significant environmental challenges for a coal-fired power plant. Prior to these projects, the concept of zero discharge for FGD wastewater was not considered to be viable. Taking a hybrid approach and utilizing pretreatment to the evaporators allowed Aquatech to exhibit that ZLD could be achieved on this water for a reasonable cost and with ultimate reliability.
GWI, through the Global Water Awards, recognizes important achievements and innovative contributions of various companies globally in the water industry. They are chosen by way of a free vote given to all subscribers to Global Water Intelligence and The Water Desalination Report, as well as to members of the International Private Water Association and the International Desalination Association.
