After a city water pipe broke, approximately 14,000 homes, schools and businesses in northern San Diego are being advised not to drink their tap water, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
The city announced March 23 that water customers might need to boil water until crews fix the problem, which could take as long as three days. The county health department has also advised 140 to 150 restaurants to shut down, the AP reported.
Affected areas of the city include: Torrey Pines, Torrey Hills, Del Mar Mesa, Carmel Valley and Pacific Highlands Ranch.
Fourteen schools have also been affected: all eight in the Del Mar Union School District, three in the Solana Beach School District and three in the San Dieguito Union High School District.
