'World Report' Program to Feature AWWA-Indonesia Partnership

March 11, 2009

Segment reports on World Bank effort to increase access to clean water for Indonesians

A growing partnership between the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the Indonesian association of water utilities will be featured on national television on the HDNet weekly documentary news program “World Report.” The segment, “Water Bringers: The West’s Indonesia Experiment,” will air during the week of March 9 at the times listed below:

  • Tuesday, March 10, 9:00 p.m. EST;
  • Wednesday, March 11, 12:00 a.m. EST;
  • Wednesday, March 11, 9:00 a.m. EST;
  • Friday, March 13, 9:00 a.m. EST; and
  • Wednesday, March 18, 9:00 a.m. EST.

Indonesia’s water supply sector hopes to add some 20 million connections by 2015 to a water infrastructure that currently reaches only 40% of the urban population and 19% of the rural population. However, the country’s utilities are plagued by debt and a culture that is unfamiliar with paying tariffs that cover the full cost of the service.

An initiative sponsored by the World Bank, with AWWA in the forefront, is attempting to bring access to more clean water for Indonesians. As the segment highlights, the effort must overcome politics, poverty and a culture often resistant to change in order to be successful.

The program, reported by correspondent Greg Dobbs, can be seen by viewers with high definition TV anywhere in the U.S. and Canada on most cable systems and major satellite systems.

The program will also be available at the iTunes store. More information can be found at www.hd.net/worldreport.html.
