Wright-Pierce Engineer Honored by Association to Preserve Cape Cod

Oct. 17, 2008
Michael Giggey recognized for his dedicated contribution to Cape Cod region

Michael D. Giggey, P.E., vice president and senior wastewater engineer at Wright-Pierce, a New England provider of water, wastewater and infrastructure engineering services, was recently honored by the Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC) for his contribution to the stewardship of Cape Cod's sensitive coastal environment. The APCC, which recently marked its 40th anniversary, is Cape Cod’s leading nonprofit environmental advocacy organization.

Giggey was acknowledged as an "Environmental Champion" by the APCC for the work he has done over the past three decades with many Cape Cod towns and municipalities in addressing water and wastewater management and infrastructure issues associated with the Cape's significant growth and development.

Giggey was the principal-in-charge of wastewater facility master planning and design upgrade projects for the towns of Yarmouth and Orleans and has worked with many other Cape towns in assessing treatment systems and facilities in light of increasingly stringent federal and state Clean Water Act mandates, and he continues to conduct annual reviews of operations at five Cape Cod wastewater facilities.

He also recently led a team of consultants that developed guidelines for Cape municipalities to better manage independent, decentralized wastewater facilities. Giggey is working in collaboration with volunteer organizations and state and federal agencies in developing water and wastewater management plans for federally identified Areas of Critical Environmental Concern.

"Mike's longstanding working relationship with Cape Cod towns and municipalities in helping guide critical water and wastewater infrastructure development, and his recent APCC tribute as a champion of the environment, are indicative of Wright-Pierce's commitment to our clients, the environment and the level of expertise we bring to every project," stated Bill Brown, Wright-Pierce president and CEO. "Wright-Pierce has recently opened a satellite office in Sandwich, Mass., to continue to provide this level of service to southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod clients."
