The Collazo Floating Strainer Model CFS-S-1 was invented by Angel Torres Collazo, president of Collazo Electrical Contractors, Inc. The equipment, U.S. patent number 7,241,384 B1, has the ability to float, allowing it to take clean water near the surface. It has a system of mesh throughout its periphery suspended under the flotation tanks. The equipment is stainless steel and will not rust. Collazo has worked for more than 30 years in the industry.
In 1998, as part of a solution to a situation that was confronting the Patillas Lake Plant (drinking water treatment plant of the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority of Puerto Rico), Collazo invented this first experimental prototype, which he says continues in operation today without any maintenance and is in excellent condition.
Collazo claims his technology:
• Protects aquatic life;
• Reduces global warming;
• Reduces industrial maintenance;
• Increases industrial performance;
• Increases the quality of water for industrial processes;
• Reduces electricity consumption; and
• is “green” technology.
Applications include the pharmaceutical, petrochemical, power plants, drinking water treatment plants, agricultural crops, large-scale water fountains and other industries that require large amounts of water for their processes and are located near a natural or artificial water bodies.
From an environmental point of view, the equipment protects aquatic life, allowing aquatic species to coexist in industrial areas. When species come close to the equipment during the suction, the equipment’s mesh isolates the concentrated suction, allowing a sufficient distance for aquatic species and fish to escape the direct suction.
