The $88 million expansion increases production facility more than eleven times to 630,000 sq ft

Dow Water Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Co. and global leader in water purification, seawater desalination, contaminant removal and water reuse solutions, has announced that it will expand its presence in Edina, Minn., to further its commitment to addressing the world’s growing demand for high-quality water. The $88 million manufacturing expansion is the third expansion at the Edina manufacturing location in the past eight years.

“We have always been committed to providing the best possible products and solutions to our customers,” said Ian Barbour, general manager, Dow Water Solutions. “Whether it is through our unparalleled industry expertise, technological developments or investing to support our customers—we’re standing behind our word to make high-quality water a reality worldwide.”

The Dow facility will feature an expanded manufacturing area to produce additional advanced water solutions, such as reverse osmosis and nanofiltration membranes. The expansion will also include the automated processes required to produce 16-in.-diameter elements. Comprised of roughly 630,000 sq ft, the expanded facility will be more than eleven times the square footage of Dow’s original plant in Edina and will feature leading-edge process and manufacturing technology, additional membrane lines, new fabrication cells and will introduce further automation to the company’s already automated production capabilities. The new lines are scheduled to begin operation in 2008, increasing the company’s total output by an initial 25%.
