HD Supply Waterworks Selected for AMR Project in Groves, Texas

May 28, 2008
HD Supply Waterworks will supply automated meters, installation services and secure funding to overhaul of city's water metering system

HD Supply Waterworks, an HD Supply business that distributes a comprehensive line of water, sewer, fire protection and storm drain products to serve the needs of contractors and municipalities in the water, wastewater, storm and fire protection markets, announced it recently began work with the city of Groves, Texas, to supply automated water meters, field installation services and secure funding as part of a project to significantly overhaul the municipality’s water metering system.

Automated meter reading (AMR) is the technology that enables the electronic collection of usage data from utility customers’ water or energy metering devices and transfers that data to a central database for billing and analyzing. The advanced technology allows users to save time and resources associated with traditional meter reading systems, and enables better control of water consumption.

“The customer benefits to implementing an AMR system are countless,” said Jerry Webb, president of HD Supply Waterworks. “We are thrilled to have been selected to deliver seamless integration of AMR technology to the city of Groves. HD Supply Waterworks’ industry-leading expertise and capabilities to offer materials, materials management, installation services and professional project development and management allowed us to provide an unmatched and complete turnkey solution based specifically on the needs of our customer.”

HD Supply Waterworks’ National Services Group, which provides value-added project analysis, solution creation and implementation, was instrumental in structuring a measurable, impactful, cost-effective AMR initiative for the city of Groves.

“What most attracted us to HD Supply Waterworks was their ability to work with us to identify the goals and challenges associated with our current metering system and deliver a single, comprehensive solution,” said D.E. Sosa, city manager of Groves. “HD Supply Waterworks’ deep industry expertise and exceptional customer service, coupled with the security of partnering with an industry-leading provider of AMR solutions, made our decision to partner with them easy.”
