Water Deputy Commissioner Wins Innovator Award

Dec. 28, 2000
Susan K. Lior, deputy commissioner of the Philadelphia Water Department, along with five other women innovators in the science and technology fields, will be honored at Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania's 14th annual "Take the Lead" awards ceremony on March 7 in Philadelphia. In response to the challenges of a deteriorating infrastructure and shrinking tax base faced by America's industrial cities, Lior pioneered the use of geographic information systems to assess the condition of municipal water systems and respond to environmental challenges. Since joining the department in 1996, she and her staff have developed the country's largest integrated, municipal geographic information system, which provides complete, timely information to anticipate and monitor infrastructure problems, increase workforce productivity, control costs and protect the environment.(Source: PRNewswire)
