Hudson Technologies, Inc. has agreed to pay United Water New York, Inc. $1.14 million after it allegedly caused contamination in United's wells close to Hudson's Hillburn, N.Y., facility.
The settlement resolved more than five years of litigation and complaints against Hudson, a reclaimer and recycler of refrigerants for ground water contamination.
The settlement, approved by the Rockland County Supreme Court, agrees that Hudson will pay $1 million up front to United Water and $140,000 over the next year and a half for a system that removes contaminants from water and other measures.
In June 1995, United claimed that two of its wells close to the Hillburn plant were contaminated by refrigerant contaminants. It sought $1.2 million in damages in the Supreme Court of the State of New York in 1998.
Hudson's Hillburn facility is a Federal Superfund Site under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
