PricewaterhouseCoopers Announces Formation of Water/Wastewater Internet Coalition

Dec. 28, 2000

PricewaterhouseCoopers, the world's largest professional services organization, announced it will lead the formation of a coalition comprising leading water and wastewater agencies. The group will develop Internet-based services for the sector, covering a wide range of Internet-enhanced functions including the creation of a water/wastewater eMarket and the provision of remotely hosted IT applications over the Internet.

With facilitation from the Energy & Utilities practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting Services (MCS), the group will present its business plan in Fall 2000.

The coalition is comprised of many of the largest water and wastewater agencies across the country, serving a combined population of more than 30 million people, and is growing rapidly. Membership is open to all water and wastewater agencies.

"Water and wastewater are fragmented sectors, perfect for many forms of virtual integration," said Roger Patrick, PricewaterhouseCoopers' project leader. "More than nearly any other sectors, water and wastewater have huge potential to generate savings, customer benefits, asset management improvements and employee benefits using the Internet. In addition, our experience in the industry has made us aware of the unique challenges faced by public agencies, such as water and wastewater utilities."

As a leading developer of eMarkets, PricewaterhouseCoopers draws upon its experience in systems integration, customer relationship management and supply chain management using Internet-based applications. The organization has worked closely on the development of more than 30 eMarkets.
