A major attempt to counter the severe drought in Pakistan which threatens as much as 50 percent of the livestock in parts of the country was announced by WorldWater Corp.
The company has signed contracts to establish drinking water stations in the six million acre area of the Cholistan Desert to help save the herdsmen and cattle stranded under drought conditions, according to WorldWater CEO Quentin T. Kelly.
The signed Agreements are by the Cholistan Development Authority (CDA) and the Punjab Rangers (Border Police) with WorldWater Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary, Kelly said. The work is scheduled to start immediately with hydrogeological studies followed by drilling as required and installations of WorldWater's "AquaSafe™" and "AquaMax™" solar pumps.
Under the Agreement with the CDA, the first five sweet (potable) water wells which already exist in the Desert under the Authority will be equipped immediately with solar pumps, according to Shahzad Ansar, Chief Executive of WorldWater Pakistan.
