Dectron Plays Vital Role in NYC Environmental Protection

Dec. 28, 2000
Dectron Internationale Inc., a leading global HVAC engineering and manufacturing company, plays a vital role in New York City's environmental protection and pollution control.

At the end of August, the company will deliver five High-Density Scrubber systems to the Wards Island Waste Water Treatment Plant, located under the Tri-Boro Bridge to Manhattan, to control foul-smelling odors and reduce noxious emissions.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency , and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in New York, requires that emissions of malodorous and toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans from water treatment facilities be maintained below the established Threshold Limit Value.

Circul-Aire, a subsidiary of Dectron Internationale, will supply five high-tech scrubber systems of 13,500 cfm each to the wastewater treatment plant. The dual-bed design systems enable the scrubber vessels to contain double the amount of Circul-Aire's MM-9000LP chemical absorption media and therefore eliminate greater amounts of malodorous and toxic gases. Each vessel is designed to have in-situ regeneration of the chemical media by means of a hydrostatic wash system. This regeneration cycle enables the facility to benefit from extended chemical media life.

Installation is scheduled to be completed by the end of September. An independent testing group will then fix the system's emission reduction efficiency to establish a Certificate of Compliance from the DEP. Furthermore, Circul-Aire's Tech-Chek Program will enable Wards Island to monitor the system filtration efficiency on a regular basis to ensure that it is functioning as designed and intended.
