Water Testing Kits to be Sold Through ACE Hardware in Canada

Dec. 28, 2000

Vital Living Products Inc., manufacturer of PurTest® water testing kits, disclosed that it has shipped PurTest to ACE Canada, a division of ACE Hardware Corporation, for nationwide Canadian distribution.

Water quality issues became front page news this May in southern Ontario with E. coli bacteria outbreaks in the Walkerton municipal water system, affecting hundreds of Canadians, killing five people and hospitalizing dozens of others. "Our development of bilingual packaging for Canada made it easy for ACE Canada to order all five PurTest water testing kits," said Donald R. Podrebarac, president and CEO at Vital Living. "ACE's recognition that Canadians want to know what's in their water facilitated their decision before the outbreak, thus enabling quick response to the emergency, and the immediate surge in Canadian demand."

Confidence in municipal water quality has been similarly challenged in the United States because of the hundreds of "boil notices" that have been issued by public suppliers across America. EPA Director Carol Browner has warned that drinking water quality cannot be taken for granted, and a Water Quality Association has disclosed 1 of every 3 consumers surveyed believe their water is unsafe.
