Parker, Colo., Drinking Water Safe After Coliform Scare

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has declared Parker, Colo., drinking water safe after two rounds of testing found no coliform bacteria. Samples from a week ago detected contamination in the water, according to the Denver Rocky Mountain News.

The department cited low levels of chlorine in the disinfection process as the cause of contamination. The bacteria may be linked to a well shut down earlier after customers complained of cloudy water, said the Parker Water and Sanitation District.

Douglas County schools turned off drinking fountains at seven Parker-area schools earlier. Coca-Cola Co., which has a contract with the school district, supplied bottled water to the schools. The water district will pay for the bottled water delivered to the schools, said Frank Jaeger, general manager of the water district.
