United Water Prepares Plan for Hudson River Plant

Aug. 29, 2007

United Water New York is planning to submit a plan for a proposed desalination plant for the Hudson River.

According to The Journal News, the company wants to treat water from the river and deliver it to customers in Rockland by 2015.

The plan is due before the state Public Service Commission by Sept. 30, and will outline what the water treatment facility would look like and the treatment processes that would be used. The PSC is responsible for the utilities in New York.

United Water spokesman Steve Goudsmith told The Journal News that the company was on track with submitting the information in time.

The proposed desalination plant would treat up to 4 million gallons of water per day, but could also be expanded to treat up to 7.5 million gallons per day in the future. The company also reported that salt, a well as other pollutants, would need to be removed from the water before it was added to United Water's supply system.
