Kentucky Governor Announces $1 Million Grant for Wastewater Upgrades

Aug. 2, 2007

Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher announced a $1,000,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to the City of Clay in Webster County for wastewater system upgrades.

“Failing septic systems and straight pipes have plagued many regions of the state for decades. It is crucial we have solid wastewater infrastructure in place to rid us of this problem” said Governor Fletcher. “My administration has focused on upgrading infrastructure for all Kentuckians. This is another outstanding example of an upgrade that will serve our Commonwealth and especially the citizens of Webster County for decades to come.”

The project consists of rehabilitating the existing wastewater treatment plant while constructing a new outfall location on the Tradewater River. The project includes a new hydrograph-controlled release lagoon and the addition of collector sewers for the Highway 109, Henry Drive, and Highway 132 areas. Total cost of the project is approximately $2.2 million, and will serve 520 existing customers and 45 new ones.

Kentucky's U. S. Congressional leaders’ continued support of the CDBG program has made the funding available nationally as well as within the commonwealth. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development makes these funds available through the Governor’s Office for Local Development.
