Peter Cook New EWA President

At the recent Council Meeting of the European Water Association, outgoing President Jiri Wanner handed the reigns over to Peter Cook of the United Kingdom.

Jean Philippe Torterotot from France was appointed Vice President. The Management Committee also gained two new members, Dr. WernerFlögl of Austria and Gamaliel Martinez from Spain.

Peter Cook is the President of EWA for the period of office April 2007 - May 2009. Part of the water industry for 40 years, Cook has a sound commercial knowledge of engineering consultancy, construction and of water services delivery both in the United Kingdom and overseas. He has held a wide range of executive roles.

Torterotot is Head of the Department of Water Resources, Uses and Risks in Cemagref. He coordinates seven research themes at six research units (about 250 staff), which address natural hazards related to water and avalanches, safety of dams and dikes, hydrological regimes and processes, irrigation and its impacts; management of water resources and water uses. He also becomes Chairman of the European Policy Committee of the EWA.
