MWH Soft, a global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, announced the establishment of The MWH Soft Environmental Engineering Endowed Scholarship at the Lebanese American University (LAU) in Beirut, Lebanon. The scholarship will recognize and assist outstanding Civil Engineering majors while supporting the University’s goal of recruiting the best and brightest students.
Annual income from the Scholarship Fund will support an outstanding senior level student who is pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering and has a passion for promoting the advancement and well-being of all people by building, operating, and sustaining safe, reliable water and wastewater infrastructures.
The recipient, who must carry a minimum GPA of 3.6, will be selected by a committee from the LAU Civil Engineering Department. Scholarship funds must be used for tuition expenses. Selection will be based on appraisal of the applicant’s award justification, stated interest in hydraulic infrastructure, academic performance and standing, development potential, leadership capacity, and financial need.
The recipient will benefit from this scholarship for one academic year, or two semesters, starting in the fall of 2008. MWH Soft may augment the fund with future donations. The company also plans to contribute state-of-the-art hydraulic infrastructure modeling and design software to the University.
“The visibility and stature accorded to the recipient of an endowed scholarship is one of the highest forms of recognition a student can achieve, and I am grateful to MWH Soft for generously providing that recognition,” said Dr. George E. Nasr, Dean of the School of Engineering and Architecture at the Lebanese American University. “Thanks to dedicated and involved companies like MWH Soft, our highly talented civil engineering students can be given this important recognition and support. This scholarship represents a generous investment in our students, who will provide the technical and economic leadership for Lebanon, build with their own hands the infrastructure of society, and make a life-enriching difference in the world. We are greatly honored by the confidence in our Civil Engineering Department reflected in this donation.”
