Over 190,000 people in central China's Hubei Province are suffering from water shortages due to a drought.
The provincial flood and drought control authorities from Hubei told China Daily that more than 200,000 hectares of farmland have been hurt by the drought. This has also left 93,000 livestock without enough drinking water.
The local government has dispatched about 400,000 people and tens of thousands of irrigation equipment to help fight the drought, which has affected 22 counties and cities in the Hubei Province.
Precipitation in the area has declined 30 to 60 percent of normal levels since April. In Shiyan, 50 streams and 1,520 ponds have dried up, and 2,300 water cellars and 16 small reservoirs are close to being dry.
