AWWA Celebrates Member Appreciation Week

Nov. 7, 2006

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) is honoring its 60,000 members for their hard work and dedication to protecting public health during the third annual AWWA Member Appreciation Week, Nov. 5 to 11, 2006.

“The strength of AWWA is in its members,” said Jack Hoffbuhr, executive director of AWWA. “It is the knowledge, experience and dedication of our members that have made us the authoritative resource on safe water.”

AWWA members share their knowledge and experience by contributing articles to its award-winning publications, presenting at and participating in its numerous conferences, seminars and other events, providing insight and review for its valuable technical resources, and volunteering on its numerous councils, divisions and committees.

At the request of its membership, AWWA is honoring its dedicated members and volunteers with a special donation to Water For People, which will help support access to safe drinking water in developing countries. Additionally, AWWA is sending each of its more than 60,000 members a special pin recognizing them as an AWWA water professional, along with a 2007 attachment. Students are recognized as water apprentices.

Members receive a new attachment each year to showcase their continued commitment to water through active membership in AWWA. Members celebrating an anniversary year also receive Service Award pins commemorating five, ten, 15, 20 or 25 years of membership.

AWWA was founded in 1881 by 22 members who saw the need for information exchange and product standards to help ensure consistent quality of drinking water. Today, AWWA has grown to approximately 60,000 members with 5,000 volunteers who are involved in all aspects of the association’s products and services. AWWA relies on the expertise of its members to advance technology, science, management and government policies related to water.
