A Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan employee parking lot in Detroit now has greenery on its roof in an attempt to help with storm water problems, as well as other environmental issues.
The company’s 1,800-space garage is one of only a few green roofs in Detroit.
The roof will also have a $100,000 one-tenth-mile running track that is made of recycled tires.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the green roof cost $600,000 and is expected to reduce air pollution and storm water runoff.
The roof will also moderate roof temperatures and the temperatures of buildings around it, as well as reduce noise.
The garage itself is made of recycled concrete and steel.
