The city of Macro Island, Fla., has issued a boil water notice for residents due to elevated turbidity levels at the water treatment plant.
According to Naples Daily News, this situation has no health effects, but turbidity can affect the disinfection processes at the plant.
Mechanical failures at the lime plant, in addition to a power outage caused by a car accident brought the turbidity levels to 1.35 units. The state standard is 1.
Residents are urged to boil water before drinking. The water does not need to be disinfected for tasks such as showering or cleaning, if the resident uses hot water.
