Frost & Sullivan Recognizes AgION for Customizable Antimicrobial Additive Technology

Sept. 11, 2006

Frost & Sullivan selected AgION Technologies, Inc. as the recipient of the 2006 Antimicrobial Additive Technology Innovation of the Year Award in recognition of the company’s innovation in offering tailored solutions to its customers and contributions toward a microbe-free world.

AgION provides engineered antimicrobials composed of naturally occurring silver ions and zeolite that inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold and fungus. The company has demonstrated the efficacy of its antimicrobial compound in diverse markets such as food and water, construction, textiles, consumer products and in the healthcare space.

AgION’s technology is far superior to that of competitors, ensuring sustained and long lasting release of the active ingredient, silver, as well as tolerance to higher temperatures. Another factor of distinction from its competitors is that AgION has well-established partners in five focus areas, which gives it the liberty to target diverse markets and act from a much broader strategic standpoint.

With ten patents and three more having been filed, the company is actively investing in development of intellectual property.

“AgION’s commitment to research and development is unquestionable, with 25% of the sales spending redirected to this function,” said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Rajesh Varadarajan. “It has a significant biological testing facility that conducts tests on a daily basis, with and for its partners, to study the beneficial effects of different compounds and to integrate AgION’s material with its partner’s material for efficacy, stability and longevity.”

AgION offers a strong value-proposition for its customers, delivering solutions that effectively address market-specific requirements, along with the capability of further customer-driven enhancements. The company also guides its partners with a unique technical knowledge base and with marketing support.

The company has narrowed its focus to five markets, which promise good growth potential—food and water contact, textiles, construction, consumer products and healthcare—to ensure that it has a very well tailored strategy to address the needs of each vertical. Toward this end, AgION has established strong alliances and partnerships in these target markets.

AgION also has expertise in designing solutions accurately for specific applications. The company offers different grades with different particle sizes and loading combinations of zinc and copper. This allows customers to choose different grades for different applications of their products. AgION’s proficiency with ion release modeling further enables the client to tune the lifetime of the product to a particular requirement.

Overall, AgION is well positioned in the antimicrobial additives market to cater to a wide array of markets. Frost & Sullivan recognizes the contribution made by AgION by presenting it with the 2006 Technology Innovation of the Year Award in the U.S. antimicrobial additives market.

Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to a company that has demonstrated technological superiority within its industry. The award recognizes the ability of the company to successfully develop and introduce new technology, formulate a well-designed product family and make significant product performance contributions to the industry.

Frost & Sullivan’s Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
